40 years of experience in State and Federal Courts
 Unmatched track record of results
Attorney who the rich and famous have trusted with their own lives
Nationally recognized expert in criminal defense matters
Certified by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization
|
For more than 40 years, Alan Baum has represented clients charged with serious felonies in both State and Federal Courts throughout the United States. Mr. Baum possesses a rare combination of expertise to provide advice on the most highly complex and challenging cases, the experience to confidently defend you and an unparallelled track record of results.
For example, in one of his most recent victories, Attorney Baum's client was charged with trafficking over 500 grams of crystal methamphetamine, and had two prior drug convictions. Due to Attorney Baum's expertise, the case was dismissed. "This is one of those cases that comes around far too seldom in the career of serious criminal attorneys -- a case where we knew the agents were lying and we were actually able to PROVE IT!!! At stake was a mandatory life sentence. While winning the case was very gratifying, being able to give a young man his life back was even better."
Certified Criminal Law Specialist
Mr. Baum's performance in highly complex cases and his vast trial experience has earned him a Criminal Law Specialist certification by the California State Board of Legal Specialization -- a certification achieved by only the top criminal attorneys in the nation. He has also earned the top AV Rating from Martindale-Hubble.
Alan's track record of winning over 80% of the cases he has tried across the nation, including over 20 murder cases, gives him a track record unmatched in his profession. In fact, a recent client of Alan's is the focus of a high profile multiple murder case in Indiana in which the client was released on his own recognizance, a feat that is unheard of in these types of cases. This lends testimony to Alan's creative defense strategies. The case has made national news headlines.
In the Federal Court system, Alan has represented the top leaders of the Cali Drug Cartel in cases in Los Angeles and New York, never having lost one of their cases. Alan explains:
"Practicing in Federal Court is a challenge that excites me. My enthusiasm shows up in the superior results I have obtained for my clients. The Federal Sentencing Guidelines are a problem, one that takes creativity, skill and experience that lawyers who do only 'some' Federal Cases simply don't have."
A Celebrity Attorney Without the Hollywood Flair
You don't have to be of celebrity status to hire Attorney Alan Baum, but it's good to know the Hollywood community has entrusted Alan with their lives on numerous occasions.
Mr. Baum explains in a recent Forbes magazine article entitled "Guns for Hire" that featured Mr. Baum in the same company as other famous attorneys including O.J. Simpson defenders Johnnie Cochran, F. Lee Bailey and Robert Shapiro:
"Being a celebrity lawyer has changed... Suddenly there are more serious crimes out there - crimes entertainment lawyers aren't qualified to deal with."
Among many of his high-profile clients, Alan has recorded his place in history by successfully defending members of the rap music groups Bone, Thugs & Harmony, and Korupt, accused of having committed a string of serious crimes. This case drew so much attention, it was aired on several Los Angeles television stations including KABC News.
In addition, Alan has been featured on ABC News' Good Morning America and the network's prime time newscast 20/20.
Early, Aggressive Intervention
Although Alan is a well-known and powerful force in the courtroom, most of Alan's work begins well before trial. Alan tactfully begins his defense by negotiating with the authorities, including local police, FBI, IRS (Criminal Division/CID), Secret Service, DEA, Postal Service, ATF and Customs.
This type of early intervention is something other Federal attorneys will brush off as "having little or no effect." The reality is that it does have an effect, by sending early warnings to State and/or Federal authorities to watch their step when preparing for a case. These powerful warnings have on numerous occasions kept charges from being filed at all.
Experience and Accreditations
Alan received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and his Juris Doctorate degree from the San Fernando Valley College of Law. Thereafter, he began his career in the criminal justice system in 1962 as a Deputy Probation Officer for the Los Angeles County Probation Department.
Alan is a former President of the San Fernando Valley Criminal Bar Association and is an active member of the following organizations:
 American Bar Association (ABA)
National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL)
 California Bar Association
California Attorneys for Criminal Justice (CACJ)
 California Public Defenders Association
 San Fernando Valley Bar Association
Association of Federal Defense Attorneys (AFDA)
Today, Alan is admitted to practice in over 40 Districts of the United States including: California, Washington, South Dakota, New York, Oregon, Florida, Oklahoma, Georgia, Guam, New Mexico, Arizona, Mississippi, Massachusetts, Kansas and Arkansas.
Alan was selected for inclusion in Southern California's "SuperLawyers" list, identifying him as one of the Top 5% of all the criminal defense attorneys in Southern California. He has extensive experience in a wide variety of criminal matters with specialization in defending White Collar Crimes (including drug crimes), Internet related crimes, and Violent Crimes at the Federal Court level.
